Children's Memorial Day- April 23, 2021
Children’s Memorial Day was established by the California Assembly in April 1997 which formally declared the fourth Friday in April as a statewide annual observance day. On April 1, 2001, the United States Congress passed a concurrent resolution supporting thie National Children’s Memorial Day. This is a day of rembrance set aside to recognize the national and local trageties of violence against children.
Children’s Memorial Day concludes the April’s Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month Activities by honoring children who have lost their lives as a result of child abuse and neglect. Please take time to review the video sponsored by California’s Office of Child Abuse Prevention regarding this day of remembrance and join us all in taking a moment of silence for the twelve children that died in Alameda County in 2020 due to gun violence, neglect or suicide.
